Within twenty minutes after eating food, plaque begins to form on teeth. In the next forty-eight hours it begins to harden, and in about ten days it becomes a rock-hard dental calculus. Plaque is a sticky film that grows on teeth above, below, and along the gum line. It releases a bacteria of acids that attacks the enamel surfaces of the teeth. With repeated enamel attacks, the tooth begins to erode and decay leading to cavities. Plaque is dangerous and ugly; however, it can fortunately be treated and even prevented.
