A sensitive tooth, known scientifically as dentine hypersensitivity, is a severe sensation, often painful, felt when the nerves of the teeth are exposed to various environments. Although these procedures can be far more complex than at home treatments, they can provide great relief for the patient.  Most commonly dental sealants will be applied to the affected teeth.  This is the application of a thin layer of liquid plastic to the tooth that is hardened.  This protects exposure of the tooth.
